IMSI

This method of treatment of male infertility has been proposed relatively recently. The first publications appeared in 1999 and the clinical efficacy has been demonstrated convincingly in 2004 by a group of scientists from Israel, headed by prof. B. Bartoov.  The meaning of the procedure is the pre-selection of morphologically normal sperm before the procedure, ICSI, and abbreviation IMSI (intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection) is translated as intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection.

In conventional ICSI procedure, sperm are selected by an increase of 200-400 times that can roughly estimate the morphological characteristics of sperm.

The merit of Professor Bartoov lies in the fact that it demonstrated the relationship between the fine morphology of the spermatozoon, and results of treatment.

It turns out that such a large increase can detect the most subtle changes in the structure of the sperm, and, having selected the most normal sperm, it is possible to achieve in certain groups of patients a high frequency of pregnancy and low frequency of spontaneous abortion.

What are the indications  for pre-selection of sperm before ICSI?

  • For patients with 2 or more unsuccessful attempts at ICSI.
  • For patients with male infertility and high Teratozoospermia, ie, an increase in the number of abnormal forms of spermatozoa.

Clinic Nadiya successfully using IMSI since 2007 and has made increasing the frequency of pregnancy among specific groups of patients is 2-3 time
